HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is best known as the hormone that is tested for in a pregnancy test because it dramatically increases after conception. In reality other hormones are far more important to the health and growth of the baby.
HCG in Australia is licensed for use in fertility and to treat hypogonadism in men. HCG is still used worldwide as a prescription weight loss program, legally it can be prescribed in Australia but is prescribed “off licence” and cannot make any claims to weight loss.
HCG has been hugely popular and this has prompted unscrupulous behaviour like the sale of products falsely claiming to contain HCG. For this reason the US recently banned the marketing and sale of homeopathic HCG products.
